I will start by saying I did not purchase Original Sin, by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson. I was fortunate enough to be given an advanced copy last week. I say fortunate because I needed a book to read on my recent flight to a reporting assignment and my other Warhammer 40k book had not arrived in time before I left.
What the book details is nothing surprising. It confirms what we knew all along: Joe Biden’s mental acuity had been increasingly declining since 2020 and should not have been president. Sources who spoke to the pair admit Biden’s mental decline picked up speed after his son, Beau, died and Hunter’s problems spiraled out of control in the mid-to-late 2010s. Which means long before Biden ran for president in 2020, he was already unfit to hold the most important job in the United States.
The selling point of the book is finally being able to get a behind-the-scenes look at how his top staffers and the Democratic Party reacted to seeing the decline over the course of his presidency. As a reporter who likes to know this type of stuff, I found that narrative to be appealing. Anyone who is a political junkie will appreciate that as well.
From the beginning, it lays out how Biden’s inner circle ruled with an iron fist and went to great lengths to keep their side in line any time someone questioned if Biden should run in 2024. Or even if he was simply okay. The mainstream media lapdogs were more than happy to oblige the White House’s commands.
Thompson has said Democrats were shocked to see how willing mainstream reporters would just accept the White House’s excuses and attack anyone who would question them. As someone who has worked in media for almost ten years, I’m not surprised in the slightest. It’s one big club and you’re not in it.
As I’ve said relating to immigration, Donald Trump was the Democrats’ justification to have the nation be at the mercy of a man literally asleep at the wheel while his inner circle ran the country. Their hatred for Trump was all that was needed to continue their farce while the the United States was pushed into messes domestically and internationally because there was no competent leadership.
More than anything, it vindicates conservative media who pressed the issue at the start of his campaign. Whether any Democrat will be held accountable is doubtful, but we at least get confirmation of who is responsible for such a big lie. Having it all laid out in a written medium is something I think is good for the history books.
Now on the question if you should by it. I think you should if you’re interested in that behind-the-scenes look, but I understand if you’re not willing to give someone like Tapper money. I certainly didn’t. Tapper has his talking point of looking back at his coverage of Biden with “humility,” which is as good as we will get from him, but one can’t help to think if he would be saying it at all if he didn’t have a book to sell.
Overall, the book is a good read and it’s plain funny in a cynical way to see how broken things are in Washington, D.C.

~ Here's a book I can recommend whole-heartedly: FIERY:But Mostly Peaceful by Julio Rosas. It is a great summary & overview of your live reporting throughout 2020. Having experienced a number of your live, or quickly uploaded, videos during the street unrest that year, it was wonderful to get a review of the timeline: and how, just as w/the Biden non-compos mentis, the legacy media is the mouthpiece of the narrative, not truth tellers to power, as they pretend. Thanks for an often emotional review of America's own 'color revolution' attempt. ~
Jake Tapper was complicit in the cover up and should not receive a penny for telling the story in a book. 🤮
