OCHOPEE, Fla. — I had to wake up at 3:30 A.M. on Tuesday in order to make it on time to arrive at Alligator Alcatraz (AA) ahead of President Donald Trump’s visit for the grand opening. The public unveiling of the completed AA was supposed to be last week featuring just Governor Ron DeSantis, but then DHS Secretary Kristi Noem was going to be there too, and then finally Trump himself said he wanted to be there for the historic event.
It is hard to underscore just how historic Tuesday was. A year ago, the southern border was still open, hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens were being released into the United States, and temporary holding facilities along the border were constructed to speed up that process instead of speeding up their deportation.
Now, we have Florida being the first state in the country to run a deportation site, aided by the remote nature of the Everglades and a large airstrip that can accommodate federal deportation flights.
To make it clear, this is far from a “concentration” or “death” camp. The detainees will be given three meals a day, have access to bathrooms and showers, medical staff are on hand, and, most importantly in southern Florida, there is air conditioning.
It is a five-star resort? No, that was done under the Biden-Harris administration. The goal of the Alligator Alcatraz is to help with detention capacity so federal sites in Florida are not overcrowded and to process more deportations. It is not intended to keep people there for months and months, rather get them back to their home country.
I do not remember the same outrage from Democrats and progressives when federal holding centers were overcrowded because so many illegal aliens were pouring through the open border.
Trump’s visit to AA marked the first time I was in the same room with him for a somewhat smaller setting. One of the tricks to getting a good question to a high-profile figure is to have multiple questions in case someone else asks it first. For some reason, I had trouble thinking of a second one for days.
Until, as Trump was speaking, I remember my followers and many others asked me why former DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas had not been arrested for his deliberate participation in the invasion of our nation. They asked me this in response to my interaction and questions to him at Ronald Reagan National Airport in April.
It is a good question and one demanded an answer from the man himself. When Trump learned from me Mayorkas had not been given a pardon by Biden on his way out, Trump told his people to take a look at it.
“But somebody told Mayorkas to do that, and he followed orders, but that doesn’t necessarily hold him harmless. So, take a look at it. Very good question, actually. Thank you!” Trump said before moving on.
Should the Big Beautiful Bill pass today, the ongoing deportations will be supercharged. It can be sure the far-left’s response to that supercharged operation will keep me busy. In the meantime, the removals from Alligator Alcatraz will keep chugging along.

Thank you Julio for the full clarification on AA in Florida. You are one of the few. Keep your good work. Florida is my State and I’m very proud of my Governor DeSantis.
Is it a five star resort?? 😆 In what other country can anyone even remotely expect a five star resort experience while being processed for breaking the law?! 🤦🏽♀️ The entitlement of people around this issue is disgusting.
I agree with President Trump Julio, that was a great question that needed an answer. Keep up the great work!! 🇺🇸🐊🇺🇸
