Anti-ICE Latino Protesters Are Making The Same Mistake As The BLM Movement

As predicted, protests are breaking out across the country to voice their opposition to President Donald Trump’s deportation operations and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. While they have not devolved into full-scale riots, some of them have gotten out of control.
The anti-ICE protests are mirroring the tactics and rhetoric the Black Lives Matter movement from 2020. Today’s protesters, like in 2020, have accosted officers and even set American flags on fire. In Los Angeles on Sunday, protesters blocked the highways near downtown.
The “ends justifies the means” mindset is something both movements share. One of the differences from the BLM movement to today is that the anti-ICE protesters have an uphill battle when it comes to public opinion.
Almost 70% of Americans supported the BLM movement in June 2020, according to Pew Research. When Pew ran the survey again in April 2023, support had dropped to barely 50%. Things like riots and pushing to defund the police will do that to a movement.
The first indicator Americans support mass deportations is President Donald Trump returning to the White House. His third campaign was not merely about building a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border, but also calling for mass deportations. The GOP handed out signs for delegates to wave that called for such during the Republican National Convention.
Generally, a majority of Americans support the deportation of person who is in the country illegally.
Mass deportations are necessary because the Biden-Harris administration opened the border and allowed an invasion of millions of illegal immigrants. Americans last November said, “No we're not going to allow this anymore.” This isn't happening because Trump wants to be mean to brown people. It's happening because migrants have become victims, Americans have become victims, and it's to prevent future victims like Laken Riley, Rachel Morin, and Jocelyn Nungaray.
If it was not for the immigration crisis of the past four years, the appetite would not be as strong. So when there's videos of Latinos crying about their family member getting deported, Americans will think of Latinos waving foreign flags while burning an American flag and say, "I don't care.”

Reading the room it appears people are tired of newly arrived illegals getting perks Americans could only dream of. They are also tired of anti-Americanism in its many forms up to and including those who wish to shame us for not accepting people who profess hatred for us, our culture and our nation. Thank you for this post. As long as ICE does not get violent with people who are not violent, the approval for deportation will most likely continue .
