A migrant caravan that left Honduras in late September is currently making its way through southern Mexico. Unlike previous migrant caravans that left the border city of Tapachula with the intention to stay in Mexico for now, this caravan has advertised the desire to go straight to the U.S.-Mexico border.

While migrant caravans during Trump 2.0 is not a new trend, the reason why this one grabbed the attention of Americans is because it is happening so close to our midterm elections.

When the “Faith and Hope” caravan entered Mexico, it numbered around 300 people. The caravan’s membership doubled when it left Tapachula, with non-Mexican migrants who have been stuck in Mexico deciding to join the latest way to get out of town.

According to local media reports, this group intends to walk to Oaxaca, the state that borders Chiapas. From there, they will have different routes to go through Mexico City on their way north.

The common response by U.S. Democrats whenever a migrant caravan makes national headlines is, “It’s a scare tactic by Republicans” or even suggesting the caravans are not really real. I remember seeing those comments during President Trump’s first term, which is why it is not surprising that those same obtuse talking points have been used with the “Faith and Hope” caravan. It further shows Democrats don’t care to understand migrant activity or trends.

This week is a big deal in Mexico as it is filled with celebrations to mark its independence from Spain. The festivities start on September 15th, with the Cry of Dolores, and Independence Day is officially on September 16th.

The Trump administration gave its congratulations to our southern neighbor, in keeping with diplomatic customs, but also did not hold back on reminding Mexico of the stakes between our two nations.

In a Presidential Determination submitted to Congress September 15th and released to the public the next day, Mexico was among the nations identified as a source for major drug transit or major illicit drug production. What was typical was President Donald Trump acknowledging President Claudia Sheinbaum’s efforts to crackdown on the cartels and drug production, but the most noteworthy part was the ending (emphasis mine):

“Additionally, Mexico’s current investments in its security forces are insufficient to sustain and expand its campaigns against narcoterrorists, their finances, and their criminal networks. This includes exposing, arresting, and prosecuting the many corrupt public officials that have aided and abetted the cartels and betrayed their own country’s security and sovereignty.”

It goes without saying the cartels operate with the protection and blessing from corrupt officials, but Mexico has historically taken the lead to go after compromised politicians. We’ll keep it in house to maintain our sovereignty, Mexico says.

That all changed after the U.S. Department of Justice indicted several current and former politicians, who belong to the ruling Morena party, back in April for colluding with and protecting a faction within Sinaloa Cartel. The fallout from those indictments has resulted in several of those public officials either resigning or taking a leave of absence while maintaining their innocence, like the governor of Sinaloa.

While Sheinbaum and her government have maintained they will be the ones to determine whether those indictments have merit, the Trump administration has reportedly revoked visas of other Mexican politicians and Morena political operatives, such as one of the sons of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Out of twenty-three countries listed in Trump’s determination, corruption is only highlighted in reference to Mexico and Bolivia.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who has recently returned from a trip to South America, gave a warm opening in his statement for Mexican Independence Day.

The meatiest paragraph, however, was the following:

“For too long, both of our nations have suffered from an epidemic of transnational organized crime and narcoterrorism, unchecked mass migration, and cartel violence that was allowed to fester in Mexico. The scourge of narcoterrorism has forced ordinary Mexicans to live in fear in their homes and poison smuggled over our border is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans. President Trump has made historic efforts to address these challenges head on, collaborating with Mexico to aggressively degrade and dismantle the narcoterrorist groups that have sought to hold the country hostage to their criminal whims.”

The tone and messaging is in stark contrast to former State Secretary Antony Blinken’s final statement for Mexico National Day, which made no reference to the cartels.

The Presidential Determination and Rubio’s statement did not go unnoticed within Mexican media:

Trump’s message to Mexico is simple: We are not letting this issue go any time soon.

It is because of U.S. action in Venezuela and gaining allies in other Latin American countries, Mexico is walking the tightrope of appeasing American demands to do more to avoid Trump taking action on his own while maintaining its sovereignty.

TIJUANA, Mexico — People wearing shirts that feature pictures of either their son, husband, daughter, or another family member gathered at a medium-sized compound that features a view overlooking the hills on the eastern edge of Baja California’s largest city.

The yellow-orange house and walls is situated on the corner of a dirt road and looks like any other house, but it serves as a grim example of the tragic side of Mexico.

For years, it was a property used by the cartel to dissolve its victims with acid in order to leave no evidence behind. When authorities eventually raided the compound, over 1,200 human remains were dissolved there. The practice of dissolving bodies is nicknamed pozole, which refers to a traditional stew popular in Mexico.

Today, the compound is a memorial for the victims of the past and people who have gone missing since then.

Banners and posters for missing Mexicans at the memorial went as far back as 2007 and as recently as 2023. The compound’s wall lined with flyers has extra space for new flyers to go up. In Spanish, they are known as Los Desaparecidos, The Disappeared.

While it appears the number of murders in Mexico has dropped in recent years, it seems a reason for part of that dip is due to bodies increasingly never being found.

As noted in CrashOut, both 2024 and 2025 had more than 12,000 disappearances throughout the country.

That is the backdrop for the families who know about the problem all too well. The stories are often the same: Their relatives leave to go about their day and they never make it home. An investigation by local authorities technically starts only to then not be given any answers or updates. The people who are left behind say the government at all levels have abandoned them or act like they don’t care about their cases.

It is this frustration and sadness that leads them to back an idea that seems radical to many Mexicans: They support President Donald Trump using the U.S. military to attack the cartels who are largely responsible for the disappearances.

“The Mexican government hides behind national sovereignty and the non-intervention of foreign governments. But from my point of view, if we have a problem, we must accept help,” said Fernando Ceguera Flores, president of the Association United for the Disappeared of Baja California.

“I do agree that there should be cooperation between countries to attack the scourge of drug trafficking and the missing persons issue together,” he added.

“The way we are here in this country, we truly need to grab onto everything we can, whatever help it may be for us, because really, the government hasn’t done much,” said Maria Dolores Hernandez Loera.

Hernandez Loera’s son, Humberto, went missing in 2019 three months after arriving in Tijuana with his wife and infant daughter.

“I do believe we need help from other places to be able to fight these people because, unfortunately, they are taking our youth…My son was only 21 years old,” she continued.

During our interview, Humberto’s daughter walked over to stand by Hernandez Loera. There is no question the young girl is his daughter given they both have the same blue eyes.

“They should already do something because here in Mexico, they don’t. If [Trump] is going to start helping us tackle this issue I don’t see it as a bad thing,” said Claudia Lopez Ayala, who is lookin for her son, Christopher Giovanni Lopez Lopez.

Ayala’s son went missing in September 2022.

Ayala supports the U.S. taking action because of the Mexican government and law enforcement colluding with the cartels.

“Look, in 2011, when we started the association, there were only two associations in Baja California…So ten or eleven years passed in which we were working alone. What changed? The number of collectives increased,” Flores explained. “Why? Because people started disappearing” all over the state.

The only thing that has changed, Flores said, is there are now 40 groups in Baja California who are dedicated to finding missing Mexicans. Due to how much time has passed and how many times Trump has threatened to attack the cartels, Flores does not believe Trump is going to do anything significant anytime soon.

The topic of U.S. intervention in Mexico is a hot-button issue. Reasons for the strong opposition to the idea go as far back as the Mexican-American War, which resulted in Mexico giving up its claim to much of what is now the American West and Southwest.

President Claudia Sheinbaum has repeatedly declared that she will not allow any foreign military on Mexico soil in response to Trump repeatedly stating the U.S. might carry out attacks against Mexican cartels on its own.

“The United States is not going to come to Mexico with their military. We cooperate, we collaborate, but there will be no invasion. That’s ruled out. Absolutely ruled out...there is no risk that they are going to invade our territory,” Sheinbaum said during a press conference in August 2025.

Sheinbaum was recently protested by family members of Los Desaparecidos in the border state of Nuevo Leon during a political event. Like the groups in Tijuana, protesters were demanding more federal action for missing persons cases.

Due to the lack of action by authorities, the family members of the disappeared take it upon themselves to look for their loved ones’ remains’ on their own, which put them in the crosshairs of the cartels who don’t want them to find evidence of their crimes.

Hernandez Loera said they have been shot at while searching for remains or get threats for going on different properties, but “we cling on because we know there are bodies there.”

TIJUANA, Mexico — Migrants and Mexicans who work with migrants just south of San Diego told me there has been a notable decline in people coming to Baja California’s largest city before attempting to cross the border illegally.

Shelters and government officials have also noticed the number of deportees sent into Tijuana has notably decreased. This is not because there have been fewer deportations, but due to the Department of Homeland Security increasingly flying Mexicans further south and, in some cases, to other Latin American countries to discourage illegally crossing again.

“For migrants from Mexico and other countries who want to cross into the United States, the situation becomes more difficult every day, and the risks become much greater…At a certain point, that has caused people to stop coming to the border,” said José María García Lara, the coordinator for the Tijuana Migrant Alliance.

Diana Ortiz Villacorta Ramírez, the municipal director for Migrant Services in Tijuana, said deportations from the U.S. have been as far south as Villahermosa, Tabasco, a 45-hour drive away, and Tapachula, Chiapas, a 48-hour drive away.

“Last year, we were receiving 100 or 200 people a day. Right now, we receive 10, 15 or 20 people,” she explained.

García Lara said the videos from DHS and anti-ICE activists showing “very aggressive” arrests tells people in Latin America the United States “does not want any more migrants in the country. That has resulted in far fewer migrants arriving here in border cities such as Tijuana.”

García Lara estimates Tijuana has seen an 80% decrease in migrants, Mexicans and other nationalities, coming to the city.

“Many people definitely returned to their cities of origin. Others returned to their countries of origin,” Villacorta Ramírez noted. For the migrants who have remained by the border, “we have seen the successful integration of many people, repatriated Mexicans as well as foreigners, of course.”

Villacorta Ramírez and other local government agencies were hosting an El Salvador fair at a city park to highlight the contributions Salvadorans have made to Tijuana.

It is not just Trump’s enforcement of immigration laws that has migrants deciding to not cross right now, it is also attempts at things like getting rid of birthright citizenship. Yesenia Ardón has been by the border for seven years after leaving El Salvador and deciding to make Mexico her home. Being a long-time resident, she has seen the effects of such attempts.

“Many people have chosen to stay because they have heard those comments,” Ardón said about Trump’s desire for ending birthright citizenship. “At the same time, they are afraid because they have heard about people being sent as far away as Africa.

“So they would rather stay in Mexico than attempt to cross and risk being scammed or robbed,” she added.

The deportations to African countries are part of third-country deals if someone has an order to not be returned to their country of origin.

“Look, I think there is an enormous amount of uncertainty. Let’s start with visas, which they began revoking several weeks ago on a more massive scale, if you will,” García Lara concurred. “And now the issue of taking away citizenship from people or children born in the United States has come up again. Many of them were born there but have parents who entered the United States on visas.”

Pastor Gustavo Banda, who runs a shelter in the city’s hills, believes Trump “cannot follow through on everything he has said, or rather, he cannot back it up with actions. We’re getting close to the elections, and we know he is going to lose by a landslide. So, as I see it, these are desperate last-ditch efforts.”

Alejandro Martinez entered the U.S. in 1961 and was deported 14 years ago after being convicted for a felony. Since his job prospects in Mexico are severely limited being 75-years-old, he is now a resident at Banda’s shelter. He is trying to see if he can get access to his Social Security benefits.

“The worst government in the history of the U.S.,” he said about the Trump administration. “Trump is the worst criminal, he’s the biggest criminal in the history of the U.S…Hopefully, when they get the Republicans out of there, things will change.”

While Tijuana has gone through changes, that does not mean migrants are not watching the upcoming elections in November and 2028. Multiple videos on social media still show migrants illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. Central and South Americans who were part of a caravan that left southern Mexico in June told me they were heading north partly because they will have an easier time crossing should Democrats win the presidency and reverse Trump’s policies again.

Another migrant caravan left the Mexico-Guatemala border in August. That trend is expected to increase if Democrats make big gains in the midterms.

Fox News reported on Thursday DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin is working with the Department of Justice and Health and Human Services to block foreign pregnant women from entering the U.S. if they are late into the third term of their pregnancy to safeguard against birth tourism.

One thing I noticed whenever I have reported either at the southern border or in Mexico is Americans telling me to tell the migrants to “go back home” because Americans don’t want them here. I asked the people who spoke with me what their opinion is on such comments…

A woman who is on video attacking ICE agents during an operation in Fort Myers, Florida last week was finally arrested after a multi-day search.

Maria Del Carmen Negrete Raya was taken into custody early Thursday morning. She is an illegal alien from Mexico and filed an asylum application in 2023.

On August 19, ICE initiated a traffic stop on a car that was registered to a non-U.S. citizen. According to Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, Negrete Raya, among others, confronted the ICE agents when the car’s occupants ran away. Negrete Raya kicked and punched agents when she attempted to enter the agents’ vehicle. One agent was hit in the groin.

Negrete Raya is being charged with three counts of battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, in violation of Florida Statute 784.07(2)(b). Once the charges are reclassified, they will be second-degree felonies due to her status an as illegal alien. She faces up to 15 years in prison per count.

“Florida will not tolerate anyone — especially those who shouldn’t even be in our country — attacking our law enforcement officers,” said Uthmeier. “Our federal partners are here to enforce the law and defend America’s sovereignty. Those who assault them will face the full weight of the law.”

Agencies involved in this case include the Florida Highway Patrol, ICE, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and the Office of Statewide Prosecution.

I had the opportunity to have a discussion and debate with David Bier, who is the Director of Immigration Studies at the CATO Institute, about President Donald Trump’s immigration and deportation policies.

For those who are unfamiliar with Bier, he has been a constant critic of how Trump has used the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. While he does not want to abolish ICE or not have any borders, like Democratic Socialists, he wants to have more pathways for immigrants to enter the U.S. legally and does not believe in mass deportations.

The Department of Homeland Security revealed some of the illegal aliens who were deported from the United States last week, among them were criminals who had convictions for murder and burglary.

“Every day, DHS is delivering on President Trump’s mandate from the American people to deport illegal aliens from our country,” said DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin. “Just last week, ICE deported murderers, drug traffickers, and burglars. With deportations up, crime has gone down across the country. We will not stop deporting illegal aliens until we have made America safe again.”

Last week’s deportations included:

Hung Phu Huynh, a criminal illegal alien from Vietnam, deported on July 28. His criminal history includes convictions for second-degree murder and first-degree assault, and arrests for prostitution and felony weapons offense.

Jose Julian Catarino-Reyes, a criminal illegal alien from Mexico, deported on July 30. His criminal history includes convictions for vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run.

Jesus Flores Pineda, a criminal illegal alien from El Salvador, deported on July 31. His criminal history includes a conviction for felony sexual assault and an arrest for illegal re-entry.

Narine Redikovna Pogosyan, a criminal illegal alien from Armenia, deported on July 29. Her criminal history includes convictions for burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, receiving stolen property, larceny, drug trafficking, and drug possession, and arrests for drug possession and illegal entry.

Abdul Rahman Wurie, a criminal illegal alien from Sierra Leone, deported on July 30. His criminal history includes a conviction for distribution of drugs.

Based on recent reporting, ICE arrests are at an all-time high. Not only are there additional ICE agents hitting the streets, due to increased funding, but locations such as airports are becoming sites where people without legal status are being taken into custody.

It is a day ending with y and that means another far-leftist carried out an attack against the federal government by lighting a fire outside a building that houses the ICE field office in New York City.

Video shows a man dumping a flammable liquid on the ground by the building, setting it on fire, and tossing items into the flames. Video also shows what appears to be a firework exploding while police respond and apprehend the suspect.

“At approximately 8:20 AM, an anti-ICE rioter launched fireworks outside of 26 Federal Plaza, grazing a bystander and poured what is believed to be gasoline on the stairs of the entrance of the building and set it on fire,” the Department of Homeland Security said.

“A FPS Protective Security Officer swiftly tackled and detained the agitator, sustaining minor injuries during the incident. Officers quickly recovered the individual’s bag, which contained what appeared to be two pellet guns and a manifesto,” DHS added. “EMS, FBI, and the NYPD are on the scene. This is a developing situation and we will updated the public when more information is available.”

Reporters at the scene said an anti-ICE sign that says, “ICE off our streets” was left behind, along with a cart containing other items.

WABC reported the man who is in custody is believed to be a someone “with a history of anti-ICE activity.”

The attack comes shortly after two shootings by ICE agents in Texas and Maine, which resulted in the deaths of the illegal immigrants who agents were trying to take into custody. DHS maintains the shootings were in self-defense and defense of the public since the two deceased individuals did not obey commands to stop their respective vehicles.

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic Socialist who has called for ICE to be abolished, condemned the attack but notably did not say who the attack was against or who carried out the terroristic act.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio hosted the Ministerial on the Resurgence of Political Terrorism, an international conference on far-left violence, on Thursday and reiterated that his department will continue to go after anarchists across the globe.

While Antifa is well-known throughout the United States, it is also part of a larger movement that spans multiple Western countries.

These international far-left groups are responsible for 21 violent attacks in Europe in 2024, compared to 24 attacks from jihadists that same year. Of the 45 reported terrorist attacks in Europe in 2025, 12 were attributed to far-left and anarchists, according to the State Department.

“These are not distinct and isolated cells, they are interconnected networks. They do not recognize our borders. They do not believe in the nation-state itself,” Rubio told the assembled diplomats.

“Through intelligence and information sharing, through coordinated law enforcement strategy, through financial targeting and disruption, we will dismantle these networks brick by brick. It is time for the people of the civilized world to defend ourselves,” Rubio continued.

“Under President Trump, for the first time, the United States is building the infrastructure, the partnerships, and the strategy to defeat the scourge of far-left terror,” he added.

This part of Rubio’s speech is one of the most important things to consider about the Trump administration’s response to Antifa violence. I have seen Republicans and Trump supporters complain the government is not going fast enough to arrest far-left militants.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — There has been a lot of discussion and debate if the Department of Homeland Security is only focusing on illegal immigrants who are “the worst of the worst” or if they are carrying out mass deportations under Secretary Markwayne Mullin.

Mullin has stated he wants to avoid national headlines conjured up by the big shows of force in sanctuary cities and states when Kristi Noem was leading DHS. With DHS now selling back most of the warehouses that were originally purchased to increase holding capacity, some staunch supporters of President Donald Trump have become critical of Mullin.

During a recent embed with the Florida Highway Patrol, I was able to see that while there might not be flashy operations like Metro Surge or Midway Blitz, ICE arrested nearly everyone who they could arrest regardless if they had an extensive criminal history or not. Many arrests took place mere miles away from Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s Winter White House.

In the three-day operation, FHP, ICE, Border Patrol, HSI, and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrested over 300 illegal immigrants. The arrests were the result of conducting traffic stops for moving violations such as speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, double registration tags on the license plate, and having tinted windows beyond what is allowed.

It should be noted the unit I was with also pulled over U.S. citizens for the aforementioned violations and each were given citations.

Criminal histories of some of those arrested included:

• Illegal reentry (That is a felony)

• Sexual assault of a child

• DUI and driving without a valid driver’s license

• Battery and hit-and-run

• Narcotics possession and drug trafficking

• Suspected membership to Tren de Aragua

• Domestic violence

(Each bullet point represents a different person and there were repeated crimes in the list provided to MP.M.)

I recently had the opportunity to embed with the Florida Highway Patrol as they worked with ICE, HSI, Border Patrol, and Palm Beach County Sheriff’s to arrest illegal immigrants in Palm Beach County.

Over 300 were arrested within three days. While some were taken into custody for simply being illegally present in the country, others had extensive criminal histories. Stay tuned for that report.

When arrests were happening during traffic stops, local anti-ICE activists and trackers showed up to film. I decided to see what they had to say and what they had to say was not surprising: Lots of talk, nothing of substance.

To their credit, the activists obeyed police commands and remained peaceful. Florida does have a “Halo Law” which requires bystanders to stay 25 feet away from officers while they carry out official duties. Florida is not Minnesota or California so the activists know they have to abide by that law.

TAPACHULA, Mexico — It was past 7:00 A.M. on Saturday and “The Hand of God” migrant caravan, which was mostly Central and South Americans, had still not left Parque Bicentenario despite plans for leaving two hours prior.

It turns out the delay was due to having to wait for stores to open so participants could buy a can of spray paint to complete their banner. After spraying “The Hand of God Caravan” and Philippians 4:13, (“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me”), around 300 migrants set off just before 8:00 A.M. to leave Mexico’s southern border.

The caravan was escorted by local police, to avoid accidents on the road, with the Mexican National Guard and immigration officers following close behind.

Tapachula has long been a waypoint for migrants who want to pass through Mexico on their way to the United States. Situated on the Mexico-Guatemala border, the city is the first stop for people to get Mexican immigration visas so they can have the ability to travel through the rest of the country.

During the Biden-Harris administration, Tapachula was inundated with migrants, originating from all over the world, who were wanting to take advantage of the United States’ open border policies. Today, the second Trump administration has pressured the Mexican government to keep migrants away from the U.S.-Mexico border, with Tapachula being one of the cities officials try to keep them in. One way to keep them there is not approving any visas, leading to many being stuck by the border for months.

Caravans have formed this year, as they have in the past, to work around the slow process to get visas and to have a better chance at reaching their final destination without being kidnapped, robbed, or murdered. These days, the primary motivation to leave Tapachula is to seek better job opportunities while their visa applications are processed.

This past Saturday’s caravan participants acknowledged it would be extremely difficult to enter the United States so long as President Trump’s policies are in effect. That said, those who spoke to MostlyPeaceful.Media said they are willing to work and wait in other parts of Mexico until a new president with different immigration policies is in office.

In the meantime, they are happy to see Democrats working to stop or stifle Trump’s plan for mass deportations, such as preventing the funding for the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The political fight in Congress over the budget for DHS resulted in a government shutdown, then a partial shutdown for just the agency after Democrats wanted more restrictions on immigration enforcement.

Senate Republicans had to go around Senate Democrats to get past the 60-vote threshold and were able to provide funding to DHS for the rest of Trump’s term without any of the restrictions demanded by the opposition.

Why not?” explained Giovanni Sánchez, who is from Guatemala City, adding that many would like to go to the U.S. now but, “To be deported and try again? All of that is expensive.”

“[Democrats] are doing everything possible to get rid of that? To give more support to migrants? That would be good,” Sánchez said about Democrats wanting to defund DHS. “I have heard of shelters in the United States that help us.”

Sánchez described himself as a jack of all trades handyman.

“I will not go hungry. It is better to work and not steal,” he said.

The night before the caravan left, another man from Guatemala told MP.M he was deported from the U.S. in 2021 after serving a three-year prison sentence for assaulting someone with a bat.

“But that is okay, they should remove it,” he said about DHS funding. “But why does Trump screw over our people?…You know what bothers me? We come struggling…We reached the goal and for him to come and deport us?”

“We directly hold together that country of the United States,” a masked Honduran man told MP.M as we walked with the rest of the caravan. “Maybe we will organize and work in the border awhile and see if [Trump] leaves and then cross.”

The Honduran, who has been previously deported from the United States, was more skeptical of Democrats campaigning to defund DHS as he believed it is a tactic to simply get votes from children whose parents are illegally present.

Isaías Monroy, also from Guatemala and is traveling with his wife, said he thinks Trump has been “terrible” but hopes “God touches his heart and that we arrive in this caravan together for the American Dream.”

Monroy said he would like to work in the U.S. as a mechanic and in heavy transportation, but he would be content with staying in Mexico if he is able to open up a shop.

“Why not? Nobody discriminates here. There is food and water. Mexico has it all, right? They are not racist,” Monroy stated.

“[Americans] need to help us out. We need to unite in order to get Trump out. Because the truth is he is destroying a lot of Latinos” Sánchez said, noting he has had encounters with Mexicans who do not want the migrants in Tapachula.

Local media reported “The Hand of God Caravan” had walked 25 miles to the town of Huixtla by the second day. So far, the high temperatures and afternoon storms are the crowd’s biggest hurdles.

As with previous caravans, it is unlikely this recent group will stay together for very long. The caravan will either be broken up by Mexican immigration authorities, people will be able to make their way to their desired destination individually, or others will quit the trip and go back to Tapachula. It is expected this will not be the last time a large group of migrants try their luck walking to northern Mexico, even with the odds stacked against them.

TAPACHULA, Mexico — Friday night’s strong rainfall and thunder did not deter hundreds of Haitians from watching their country’s soccer team face off against Brazil in a public watch party hosted at Miguel Hidalgo Park.

The previous night at the same public watch party, Haitians and other migrants were with Mexicans cheering on Mexico’s national team when they won their match against South Korea.

Tapachula is on Mexico’s border with Guatemala and has historically been the main city for migrants to pass through on their way to the United States. As I reported back in 2024, the Biden-Harris border crisis resulted in the town being overwhelmed by the number of migrants trying to take advantage of the Democrats’ open border policies. With President Donald Trump securing the U.S.-Mexico border on his first day back in office, tens of thousands of migrants across Mexico were now stuck.

Some decided to go back to their home countries or try to make Mexico their new home. Others decided to wait another four years in the hope a different U.S. president reverses Trump’s policies. This includes Tapachula and it’s why so many Haitians, for example, were watching their home team playing at the World Cup in Mexico.

So what am I doing at Mexico’s southern border again? Truth be told, I never expected to be back in Tapachula. That changed after I saw the news when two migrant caravans left the city earlier this year, mainly citing lack of job opportunities and no immigration visas being issued by Mexican officials. Another caravan is slated to leave early Saturday morning.

What made the caravans’ mission interesting is they publicly declared they were not trying to reach the U.S., only other cities in northern Mexico. A lot has changed since my previous trip. I figured this would be a good opportunity to see what has changed with Trump’s policies and talk with migrants who want to continue their journey, even with the odds stacked against them.

Well that did not last long.

After working with the Department of Homeland Security to shut down violent protests at Delaney Hall, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka announced on Thursday his city’s police department will be drawing down their presence at the holding facility.

“It is not the responsibility of the Newark Police Division to secure a private facility. We made clear to the GEO Group, who has its own private security firm, that securing their facility is their responsibility, not the City’s,” Baraka explained. “Our intention was never to protect Delaney Hall or HSI but to bring calm.”

Newark police will still be in the area, but mainly focusing on traffic management, not crowd control. Baraka cited the lack of violent clashes the past few days as another justification for the drawdown.

Baraka’s statement comes after he lifted the curfew he put in place for only one night. Dozens of arrests were made after a small crowd refused to the leave after the curfew’s start time. Newark police and New Jersey State Police were heavily criticized by leftists for their tactics in arresting curfew violators. Open border advocates have also gone after Governor New Jersey Mikie Sherrill (D) for “cooperating” with DHS on crowd control.

Not only was the curfew lifted, but protesters were able to go past the checkpoints established to prevent crowds from being in front of Delaney Hall. Not even journalists were allowed past the checkpoints when they were still in place.

This retreat from the city, which is what this is, will only embolden protesters and rioters…

A lot has been said with how the Department of Homeland Security handled the nearly week-long riots outside the Delaney Hall detention center in Newark. Unsurprisingly, Democrats and open border advocates say the federal agents were “brutal” against “peaceful” protesters (They were not and they were not peaceful).

Some Republicans and Trump supporters have said that by “allowing” the riots to drag on for a week makes the Trump administration look weak, especially in light of branches of Antifa being designated as foreign terrorist organizations.

I do agree to a certain extent with the Right’s criticisms, but not entirely. What many seem to forget…

NEWARK, N.J. — Saturday night saw another round of violence from anti-ICE rioters outside of Delaney Hall after the crowd tried to breach a set of temporary barricades. New Jersey State Police and Newark Police, who were not in riot gear, struggled to keep the bike rack barricades intact.

Interestingly, officers did not use pepper spray to make the rioters let go. Eventually, riot police responded from the other side of the road, but the crowd was able to successfully tear down the barricades, forcing the first set of officers to fall back.

What followed was a slow push from law enforcement to make the rioters go down the road away from the ICE facility. Police used tear gas and flash bangs, but the crowd tried their best to throw up barricades to halt the advance.

The advance by police continued until rioters set random items, such as traffic cones and pieces of wood, on fire in the middle of the street. The flame grew in size thanks to people pouring lighter fluid on it.

While state and local police were successful in stopping the rioting outside Delaney Hall, they made a critical mistake…

The confrontations between Homeland Security and anti-ICE rioters outside of Delaney Hall in Newark, New Jersey did not stop on Friday night. While the day started out slowly, it was partially due to New Jersey State Police setting up roadblocks and making protesters park further away.

That calm, if you could call it that, did not last after state troopers gave a dispersal order to the crowd. The anti-ICE protesters rushed to move their vast amount of supplies closer to Delaney Hall.

State police then moved in to clear the crowd away from blocking Delaney Hall’s driveway to allow vehicles to leave and enter, resulting in clashes. Police used tear gas, pepper balls, and mounted troopers to push them back. DHS personnel, who had been in a standoff all day with the crowd, helped to dislodge the mob.
